Most people can't imagine that ideas could have anything to do with the way
our culture is continuously deteriorating - but they do.
More precisely, it's the lack of ideas.
Ideas like moral principles, or principles of any kind.
It's an abdication of the power of the human mind to grasp reality
and allow consistent action toward long-range goals.
Without the right ideas, our culture will deteriorate into barbarism,
and it won't take long.
What is our foriegn policy ?
Why did the US get involved in Kosovo ?
Was it just convenient timing to turn our attention from the
Cox report ?
It would be one thing if misguided zealots for a "brotherhood of man"
were duped into allowing an aggressive dictatorship to obtain the means
to threaten and destroy our world.
But to think that this was done by mistake,
as a casual, pragmatic decision, a compromise to appease some financial concerns...
Think of it.
Your home. Your life. Your children.
These are now held hostage because of the careless and deliberate violation
of security measures - by the very people whose only legitmate function was
to protect us from such threats.
But "rules are meant to be broken", they say.
"It'll solve the crisis of the moment to just let
the Chinese have this knowlege".
Bloody massacres in Tiananmen Square
250,000 in
're-education camps' today - building toys for your children -
"oh, it's just a different culture".
"Justice ? - oh, that's just a cultural convention."
"Rights ? - oh, that's just your opinion."
"Truth ? - no one can know the truth"
Without the right ideas, our culture will deteriorate into barbarism,
and it won't take long.
Can the World be Saved ?
If you don't know about Objectivism, here is a RealAudio version
of part of Dr. Leonard Peikoff's 1976
lecture course on Objectivism.
This section presents a brief overview of Objectivism, by describing how
it relates to other current ideas, but you should really read his book,
Objectivism: The Philosophy of Ayn Rand.
This book, and the entire 33-hour lecture (24 tapes), can be ordered from
Second Renaissance Books .
